Dr Neelam Hussain is a historian specialising in the intellectual and cultural history of the medieval Islamicate world. She has worked with departments across the University of Birmingham teaching on modules in Islamic history, art history, Islamic studies and research methods. As part of her work with the Mingana Collection, Neelam has worked on various projects and exhibitions on the 'Birmingham Qur’an Manuscript' - both in the UK and at an international level – working with the British Council and the UAE Ministry of Culture & Knowledge as strategic partners.
Neelam has presented her academic research and her advocacy on increasing the engagement of minority groups and people of colour in the arts and culture sector at national and international conferences. She has also published on this subject, with the aim to suggest ways to close the participation gap in the museum and heritage sector.
In addition to her work as a trustee of the MIAH Foundation, Hanan Fara is a doctoral student and Teaching Associate in the School of Philosophy, Theology, and Religion at the University of Birmingham. She is also an academic mentor and a visiting lecturer in the Department of Education at Newman University. Her research specialises in the Sociology of Religion and Education; she explores the identity formation of British Muslim students and their experiences in higher education. She completed a BA in Theology and Education at Newman University and an MA in Theology at the University of Birmingham.
Hanan brings to the MIAH Foundation, her expertise in the challenges faced by young British Muslims. She also brings with her practical experience in dealing with budgets for large projects. Hanan is responsible for overseeing the financial records and annual reporting of the MIAH Foundation.
Dr Amna Nazir is a Reader in Law and Associate Director of the Centre for Human Rights at Birmingham City University. She is a dual qualified scholar of Islamic law and international human rights. Her research lies at the intersection of law and religion with a specific focus on the UN’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR). Dr Nazir has undertaken extensive consulting and policy work with governments, civil society and the United Nations.
Amna brings her practical, leadership, research and legal expertise to MIAH. She is responsible for developing the MIAH Foundation's governance policies and ensuring that we comply with our statutory obligations as a charity.
